Haley Farm Trail to Stony Ledge, back down the Hopper Trail
Distance: 5 miles
Difficulty: Strenuous
Hike Leader: Barbara Carr
Come join us for a 5 mile loop hike featuring a stop at Stony Ledge, one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the area!
After meeting in the Haley Farm parking area at the end of the Hopper Road, we’ll head up the Haley Farm Trail. The first mile of this trail is the most strenuous part of the hike – steep in sections as it rises quickly through the forest to the top of the east-west ridge. On mile 2, we’ll move in and out of rocky gullies to a view of Williamstown to the north and then climb a short, steep portion of the Stony Ledge Trail to the Stony Ledge viewpoint. This is a stunning spot for a break and for taking in the views of Mts. Greylock, Fitch and Williams, and down into the Hopper.
After relaxing for a bit on Stony Ledge, we’ll walk a gentle mile down Sperry Road, through the campground to the Hopper Trail. The Hopper Trail takes us 2.4 miles back down to Haley Farm. This trail is rocky and wet in sections, so be prepared with sturdy footwear.
