Mt. Greylock Hike
Distance: 10 miles
Difficulty: Strenuous
Hike Leaders: Scott Lewis, Barbara Carr
Registration required: Please email Scott
Join WRLF hike leaders Scott Lewis and Barbara Carr on a “whale”‘of a hike! We’ll be heading up the inspiration for Herman Melville’s classic via the Haley Farm trail to the Hopper trail to the summit – approximately 6 miles. We’ll then descend down the Hopper trail to the parking area. Total mileage is 10 miles with about a 2000′ change of elevation up and then down!
This will be a fairly challenging hike in our summer series. Please be prepared for an all day adventure. Start yourself with a good hearty breakfast, bring snacks, lunch and at least one quart of water – we’ll be able to replenish our water at Bascom Lodge on the summit.
You should also be prepared with good hiking shoes, an extra layer or two for the cooler summit and a rain jacket (weather pending!) Hiking poles are highly recommended for the steep downhills and they also help with the uphills too!
We’ll be ascending through several forest zones and popping out to some spectacular view points on the way to the “roof of Massachusetts”!
