WRL Response to COVID-19

APRIL 2021 update

Guided Hikes

After a hiatus last year, we are pleased to announce that WRL guided hikes will return in 2021.  Our Trails Committee members are busy planning hikes and setting dates.  Look for a full 2021 guided hike schedule soon.

Volunteering on trails

Looking for an opportunity to get outside?  Volunteer to help with trail maintenance with Rural Lands.  WRL’s Lands and Trails Coordinator, Dan Gura, and Trails Committee chair, Cosmo Catalano, will be leading occasional volunteer days to conduct trail improvements this summer.  Please send an email to Dan at: trails@wrlf.org if you are interested in volunteering.  COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed.

Education programs

We miss kids at Sheep Hill!  Rural Lands expects our nature programs for children to return this summer.  We are in the process of hiring a new Program Coordinator to plan and run the programs.  Look for an announcement in the coming weeks.

WRL office and buildings at Sheep Hill

The WRL office at Sheep Hill will remain closed to the public until all staff have been vaccinated.  A staff member will be present at the office Monday – Friday 9 am – 5 pm.  The door will remain locked, but please knock if you need to speak to us.  Starting May 1, the barns and interpretive exhibits at Sheep Hill will be open to the public.  Please follow social distancing guidelines and wear a face mask around all buildings on the Sheep Hill campus.

WRL conservation properties

All WRL conservation properties remain open to the public for passive recreational uses.  If the parking lot at a trailhead is full, consider taking a hike elsewhere or returning at a later time.  Out of consideration, please don a face mask when you come upon other hikers, and maintain social distancing while on the trail.
